Wat Huey Mongkol Temple is the where the world biggest Luang Pu Thuad sculpture with the size of 9.9 m. by 11.5 m. on the top of three level platforms with 70 m. width. Luang Pu Thuad sculpture is located at Huaykod community, Hua Hin. Prachuap Khiri Khan.
The original name was Wat Huaykod Temple. The new name was granted by King Rama IX that changed from Huaykod to Huey Mongkol.
For over 40 years that the King Rama IX came down to visit the local community and developed the non-profit projects to build up the community and also adopted the temple under his support. The current master, Pra Kru Prapatsarawatpinij or Master Piroj Papatsaro who is the project developer and General Viset Konguthaikul, Chief Aided Camp General, had the idea to build the statute of the world biggest Luang Pu Thuad sculpture to dedicate to the 72 years celebration of King Rama IX and continue the Buddhist propagation to all the Buddhism.
Because of the magical story of Luang Pu Thuad that stepped in the ocean and turn it to be unsalted water made the local southerners admired in his magic for a longest time and all the southerners have known and passed on to today. This made many private and public organizations to participate in the building process the world biggest Luang Pu Thuad sculpture.
On September 27, 2004, Queen Sirikit came down to visit and participated the casting process and allowed the committee to use her initial S.K. on the front of the sculpture.
There is also another sculpture of Luang Pu Thuad which was carved from golden teak. This golden teak was buried deeper 10 meters depth, in the sand under Yom River in Prae Provice. The local villagers believe that the tree, which has a foot long in the core or longer, that tree, has the tree fairy or tree angel protecting it. When taking that golden teak to make Luang Pu Thuad sculpture, anyone who comes to worship to the golden teak Luang Pu Thuad carved sculpture will be blessed and bring all lucks to them.
Location:
Wat Huay Mongkol is located about 18 kilometers west of Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province which can be reached from Highway 4 along route 3218. Stay on the 3218 Road all the way to Wat Huey Mongkol, going straight ahead the road becomes the 3219. This road leads to Ban Huay Mongkol and Wat Huey Mongkol.
