Chonburi - Wat Yai Intharam - CK Anak

Wat Yai Intharam, dates back to the Ayutthaya period. Its Ubosoth contains mural temple paintings, some dating back to the Ayutthaya era. Both longitudinal walls depict scenes of the Jataka Tales.

Unfortunately, you will have difficulty in seeing the temple paintings at the site, because the Ubosoth usually is closed to the general public. Closeby the Ubosoth there is another temple structure, a Mondop that houses a Buddha footprint. It also has more contemporary paintings on the walls.

Try to visit on Buddha's day only

Recommendation ***** (must see!)

CK Anak on the extreme left

The Ubosoth at Wat Yai Intharam shows the 'classical' curved base of the structure
(like a ship) often seen in temples from the Ayutthaya period

Its not a Buddha's Day but this monk makes an exception for me.
There are a total of 3 ubosots.  The oldest one is closed and it's not been opened
by the monk for a long time.  The newest and the second oldest one is
opened to the public on Buddha's Day only

The newest Ubosot
I'm not afraid to say that my tears came down while I offered my prayers
here...It all felt so peace and so connected....I stayed here for quite a while

Beautiful murals on the wall

The second Ubosot - the monk gladly opened for us.

Lots of buchas here, all donated by the local people

The second oldest Ubosot

I respected the monk's decision not to open the oldest Ubosot.  But before I left
he changed his mind to open it.  But due to long time not being open, the door
was heavy and rusty...we took quite a while to push the door
A view of what's inside - not everyone have an opportunity to see this.
Everything here is classified as National Heritage and cannot be moved.

Even a leaking roof cannot be repair without seeking the authorities's permission

Easily few hundred years old buchas here
