Angthong - Wat Tha Sutthawat

This ancient temple was constructed in the early Ayutthaya period.  During the war, armies and troops crossed the Chao Phraya River at this temple.  Now, the temple is under the royal patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.  The temple compound is shaded by large trees, which also reach over the bank of the nearby Chao Phraya River, lifeblood of the country. The royal pavilion stands in the middle of a pondwithin the temple grounds.

Monuments celebrating King Naresuan the Great and King Ekathotsarotstand beside the pavilion. Inside the Ubosot (ordination hall), Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn commissioned her personal painters and artists from the Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Project to create murals illustrating Phra Maha Chanok, the history of Ang Thong.  Her Royal Highness graciously drew a mango on this temple wall as well.
