King Rama V also paid homage to the temple, and ordered it renovated. Unfortunately, vibrations from the renovation work caused the ancient seated Buddha image to fall apart, and a new image was commissioned.
The current image is similar to an image at famed Wat Kalayanamit, with a height of nearly 23 meters and a lap width of over 16 meters. It was graciously named Phra Mahaphutthaphim, and celebrations commenced. In addition, a late 1800’s molded statue of Somdet PhraPhutthachan (To Phromrangsi) is also enshrined in at this temple.
Location
Wat ChaiyoWorawihan or Wat Ket Chaiyo is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, approximately 18 kilometers away from Amphoe Mueang Ang Thong, on Ang Thong - Sing Buri route.
Address: Tambon Chaiyo, Amphoe Chaiyo, Ang Thong
Opening hours: The temple is open daily from 8.00 am-5.00 pm.
Recommendation *****
Stalls along the carpark upon reaching the temple, good to look at; but I don't recommend you renting unless you are an expert in authenticating the amulets |
